The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Voice Displeasure About Size Changes
Vinted users have been reacting angrily due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
This online marketplace has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's garments without notifying every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Backlash
Countless users and merchants are expressing on platforms stating that platform listings now display a different size category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
The company said the new system was more in line with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to examine their items and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Modifications
Previously, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
In some cases, the measurements have been reclassified - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
User Stories
One content creator, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, since I have chronic health issues and Vinted sales have been crucial following partial earnings loss," she said.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million members, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has become a favored option compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance that an unexpected update on the platform has faced criticism: last year, the platform withdrew an update regarding delivery choices due to shopper criticism.
